The government has released about seven million exercise books for distribution to all public basic school pupils in the Ashanti Region. According to the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Joseph Onyina, the regional allocation of the exercise books was based on enrolment prior to the creation of new municipalities and districts.

Speaking to Radio Ghana,Mr. Onyina explained therefore that all new districts will receive their share of the exercise books from allocations made to their parent districts or municipalities.

Under the distribution, every Junior High School pupil will receive one each of a Graph and Technical Drawing book plus 13 other exercise books while pupils in Primary Four to Six are entitled to six exercise books each. Those in Primary Three alone will receive four exercise books.

Additionally, Class Two and Three pupils will receive three Writing and Mathematics exercise books each with those in Primary Two entitled to extra two Language exercise books. Pupils in Primary One will each get three exercise books for Mathematics, Writing and Language. Mr. Onyina encouraged the pupils to learn hard to justify the huge investments being made in them by the government. He also urged teachers to ensure quality academic work.
