Minister for Education, Mr. Alex Narh Tettey-Enyo,

The Minister for Education, Mr. Alex Narh Tettey-Enyo, has disclosed that the reversal of the duration of the Senior High School (SHS) education from four to three years will commence from September 2010.

According to him "cabinet had approved the implementation Plan for the reversal and the document will soon be sent to parliament for amendment and approval before implementation."

The Minister disclosed this yesterday when he appeared before Parliament to respond to questions relating to the outcome of the National Education Forum which was charged to deliberate on the length of the SHS education in the country.

The forum was also to look into the provision of buses and Science Laboratories to SHS and the government’s policy of ‘one district one technical and vocational institute' programme.

The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ada, said "a total of GH¢53. 667 was spent on the organisation of the forum" which was held late last year.

On the issue of government’s policy of 'one district one technical and vocational institute'  programme, the Minister was optimistic that  the establishment of the Council for Technical and  Vocational Education and  Training (COTVET)  will promote technical and vocational education.

Mr. Alex Narh Tettey-Enyo, also said it is the Ministry’s policy to ensure that all SHS have buses and therefore has procured and distributed 199 buses and 139 pick-up to some SHS.
