President Mills welcomes Ms. Anneli Vuorinen of Finland
Three new envoys accredited to Ghana yesterday presented their Letters of Credence to President John Evans Atta Mills at the Jubilee House in Accra. They were the Italian ambassador designate, H.E. Lucas Frotini, the Finish Ambassador designate, H.E. Anneli Vuorinen and the Mexican ambassador designate, H.E. Luis Alberto German Barrero Stahi.
The first to present his Letters of Credence was H.E. Lucas Frotini.
President Mills, welcoming the Italian envoy said, his government has embarked on the process of investing in people through job creation and building a strong and resilient economy.
The President described Italian civil engineers as one of the best with experiences, which can be brought to bear on national development. He said, Ghana’s doors are open for investments and collaborations, adding that Italian companies are invited to further invest in the Ghanaian economy.
H.E. Frotini was grateful for the role his country has played in the development of Ghana. He said, Italy and Ghana have enjoyed good relations. He noted that an estimated 50,000 Italians live in Ghana. Most of them, according to the envoy, are doing well to support the economy through their businesses.
The second envoy to present his letter of credence was Ms. Anneli Vuorinen. President Mills noted that Ghana and the Scandinavian countries have enjoyed good relations and it is a mark of pride and pleasure to have an envoy from Finland here.
He said, his government is working to develop the economy to ensure that the country catch-up with the rest of the world. He said, the investment policy of the government has enabled the country to open its door for investment.
The President said, Ghana has for a long time depended on cocoa, and want to diversify the economy. He said, the oil and gas find will also further open its doors for investment.
Ms. Vuorinen commended President Mills for his leadership and said, she has always have great respect for Ghana, especially in the area of peacekeeping and good governance.
She said, concrete plans are afoot to bring in trade and investment teams into the country in March, 2010 to build a strong business and economic ties between the two countries.
President Mills, interacting with H.E. Luis Alberto German Barrero Stahi, believes Ghana and Mexico share a common vision of raising the standard of living for their people.
His government, Professor Mills said, is engaged in the development of the country and how to ensure improved living conditions of the people, improved infrastructure, jobs adequacy.
He was hopeful that during his tenure, he will cooperate with Ghana in the area of the economy.
H.E. Stahi commended the President for the good relations that exist between his country and Ghana.
He said, Ghana has proven to the world that it is a country where institutions of state work. Ghana and Mexico, he noted, share a common course in their development efforts and at the United Nations.
