Asantehene holds durbar in honour of President Mills
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu has cautioned President John Evans Atta Mills about people around him who could ill-advise him.

He said many a time, those around the Presidency do not give the true state of affairs to the President and thus go to affects the administration.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs at the Manhyia Palace on the three day official visit of the President to the Ashanti Region, Otumfuo Osei Tutu said such sycophantic attitude by those who give advise to the Presidency is what has affected the development of the country.

The Asantehene said just as the current administration is demanding accountability from the previous administration, those in government now should also bear in mind that at the end of their tenure, they will also have to account for their stewardship.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu said it is unfortunate that Political Parties who come to power do not want to give praise where praise is due and called on political parties to put a stop to such practice.

He said politics of vindictiveness and insult should not find a place in Ghana’s politics. He said no ethnic group should be branded as belonging to a particular political party as there are a combination of ethnic groups in all political parties. He spoke through a linguist.

President John Evans Atta Mills said his administration has come to serve and not to lord over the people. He said with the elections over, all should put their energies behind the government to build a better Ghana.

President Mills said it is unfortunate that the freedom of speech is being abused by some Ghanaians who use unrefined language against those in authority. Earlier, President Mills visited the Sokoban Wood Village at Kaase to inspect the progress of work at the factory. He gave the assurance that he will extend electricity, water and other facilities to the factory to enhance their work.
