The Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, has assured the nation that President John Atta Mills is not going to shield any of the personalities mentioned in the Mabey and Johnson bribery scandal if they are found culpable of the offence.  

Contributing to Radio Ghana’s Current Affairs Programme “FOCUS which looked at the bribery scandal involving some past government officials and the cost of the Jubilee Presidential Mansion, Mr. Okudjeto Ablakwa hinted that, the Attorney-General, who has been dispatched to the UK to obtain more information on the issue is expected back home today to brief the President on the way forward.   

On the additional money for the Presidential Mansion or the Jubilee House, Mr. Okudjeto Ablakwa corrected the figure involved, saying he mentioned 15 million dollars but was misquoted with a 50 million dollar figure.  He categorically denied that, the amount would have to be expanded on the project before the President can move into the Jubilee House, saying it is an erroneous impression.

The Executive Secretary of Ghana Integrity Initiative, the local Chapter of Transparency International, Vitus Azeem in his contribution said the way government handles the bribery scandal would affect the way similar cases are handled in the future.

The Associate Dean at the African University College of Communications, Nana Essilfie Caduah said until the canker or tendencies of corruption are removed, progress would continue to elude the country.
