The Daily Graphic commends the Chiefs of the Volta region for initiating a two hundred and 50 million dollar Volta Region Economic Development Plan to fight poverty and deprivation. The paper describes as heart warming that chiefs’ roles go beyond ceremonial activities to architects of development. According to the Graphic, over-reliance on the Central government as the sole initiator and provider of development projects can never give the country the necessary push to achieve development aspirations. The paper urges the people of the Volta Region and all Ghanaians to rally behind their chiefs to bring the noble objectives set out in the plan to fruition.
The Ghanaians Times welcomes the President’s directive to probe the entire Ministry of Youth and Sports. The paper also calls for a similar exercise to be carried out in other Ministries. This the Times believes, will help put checks on the conduct of Ministers of State and their various Ministries. It therefore urges the Media to educate the public more on issues on corruption.
The Public Agenda expresses worry about the Nation’s policy on massive clean ups, anytime there is a major conference or a President visiting Ghana. In the paper’s view this attitude only implies that Ghanaians do not deserve to live in a clean environment unless an important dignitary is visiting. The paper hopes that, the eagerness with which Accra is being cleaned and rid of filth will not end with President Obama’s visit to the country.
