The Western Regional Director of the Department of Women, Jane Nyame Philips, says the younger generation, particularly girls, are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS due to their biological nature.
The Department of Women is therefore concentrating on the adolescent to ensure healthy life for the future generation.
Mrs. Nyame Philips was speaking at an HIV/AIDS workshop organized by the Department of Women under Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs in collaboration with the Ghana AIDS Commission.
She urged young women to concentrate on their studies and vocational training to ensure their future security and that of their families.
Mrs. Nyame Phillips advised the participants to stay away from pre-marital sex.
An officer at the Planned Parenthood Association Ghana, Sabina Mensah, urged parents to educate their wards about dangers of AIDS, teenage pregnancy and other STLS.
For her part, the former Regional HIV/AIDS Focal person, Mrs. Olivia Opoku Adoma said condom are good but when not used properly, they can cause problems for the user and appealed to parents and guardians to teach their children about sex at the early stages.
