The President, John Evans Atta Mills returned home Tuesday morning from Abuja-Nigeria after attending the 36th Mid Year Summit of the heads of state and government of the ECOWAS as well as that of the West Africa monetary zone.  He was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni and other high officials at the presidency.

At the Airport to welcome the president was the Vice president, John Dramani Mahama, some Ministers of States, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Major General Peter Blay and the IGP, Paul Quaye.

Addressing a news conference shortly on arrival, the Foreign Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni said President Mills held fruitful discussions with the Nigerian leader Yar’ Adua on bilateral relations and ways of deepening the bond of relations between the two countries.

Nigeria has promised to supply Ghana over 60 thousand barrels of crude oil per day for repayment within ninety days.  The two Heads of State called for closer collaboration between people of the two States and the opening of the market of both countries.

Ministers of the two countries also held bilateral discussions on Energy production, investment, banking and private sector development.

On Guinea Bissasu, the heads of State expressed regret for the trend of events for the worst which led to the assassination of President Joao Bernado Viera and army Chief of Staff, Tagne Na Waie.

A donor’s conference on Guinea Bissau has been scheduled for Abuja as soon as elections are held.  The summit expressed satisfaction with developments in Cote d’Ivoire that would lead to a free and fair election later this year.  The question of infrastructural development in West Africa came up for discussion.  They noted that political issues have dominated the sub-region for the past thirty years to the disadvantage of developmental issues.
