Gov't asked to review teachers, public servants salaries
The Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT Secretary, Isaac Bimpeh has called on government to as a mater of urgency take a look at the salaries of teachers as well as other public servants. This is because the high cost of living, as a result of the global credit downturn, has made many teachers to contract Loans thereby taking home very low salaries at the end of the month.

Mr. Bimpeh made the call at the Third Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metro branch of GNAT in Takoradi. It was on the theme; The New Education Reform, Enhancing Teachers Role through Motivation.

He said some G. E. S. District Directorates are not fully implementing the G. E. S. conditions of service, a situation which has seriously affected the morale of teachers. Mr. Bimpeh also called on government to speed up the more teachers were going on pension everyday without enjoying the new pension scheme.

The conference in a resolution, called for the celebration of world teachers’ day to be declared a public holiday.
