The Savelugu-Nanton District Chief Executive, Alhaji Alhassan Abubakari Atori has appealed to Ghanaians to retain the government in power to enable it to continue with its good policies and programmes geared towards eliminating poverty. Alhaji Atori mentioned the capitation grant, the school feeding programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme as some such policies of government.

The DCE was speaking at the first Annual General Meeting of the Savelugu-Nanton Mutual Health Insurance Scheme at Savelugu.

The Savelugu-Nanton District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme was licensed in June 2005 to operate as one of the nation-wide Mutual health Insurance Schemes.

The Scheme is also being supported by seventeen National Service Personnel.  Addressing the meeting, Alhaji Abubakari Atori noted that, with the introduction of the free medical care policy for pregnant women the country is getting closer to achieving the Millennium Development Goals on reducing maternal mortality by the year 2015.

The Savelugu-Nanton District Mutual health Insurance Scheme Manager Abdulai Zakaria Sharijey in his report said the scheme has undertaken numerous educational campaigns within the district to get people to register with it.
