US signs US$113m deal on drought in West Africa
The United States Agency for International Development, West Africa Mission has signed a multi-year agreement with the Permanent Interstate Committee for the Control of Drought in the Sahel in Accra.  The agreement totaling over US$113m will support enhanced agricultural productivity, food security and natural resources management initiatives in West Africa.  

The five-year extension and expansion is one of the steps the US is taking to re-affirm support to promote food security in increasing agricultural sector productivity and food security and improving regional agricultural and trade policies among others.  The activities also support NEPAD’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program and the US presidential Initiative to end hunger in Africa .  Benefitting countries include Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, and Gambia .
