GBC to get Best Security and Safety conscious award
The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC has been selected as the Best Security and Safety conscious electronic media in Ghana by the Security Watch Awards, an NGO, in Nigeria. This was announced when officials of the NGO paid a courtesy call on the management of GBC in Accra. The International Coordinator of the Security Awards Watch, Patrick Agbambu said the organization seeks to educate Africans on the need for peace, safety and security, and said for the commitment shown by GBC on issues of security and safety his management deem it appropriate to confer the award.

He said GBC’s programming between August last year and July this year have been educative, in addition to the strict compliance of GBC’s professionalism and altruism in corporate social responsibility. Mr. Agbambu said this awards ceremony which comes off on the 10th of next month cuts across international boundaries.

The Director General of GBC, William-Ampem Darko, expressed profound gratitude to the organization for acknowledging GBC’s contribution towards peace. He said peace, security and safety are important and called on all to preach peace as Ghana prepares towards the December elections. He noted that about 5% of GBC’s transmission time is used to preach peace and promised that the corporation will continue its efforts to promote peace. Other award winners are from Liberia, Kenya and Nigeria.
