An Animal Scientist and a guinea fowl consultant with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Samuel Apiiga says conditions this year favour the production of guinea fowls. This he said is attributed to the dry spells in-between rains. He advised poultry farmers who keep guinea fowls to confine the keets for at least 10 weeks before releasing them to protect them from being beaten by rain which causes pneumonia and infested by worm.
Speaking to Radio Ghana at Bolgatanga, Mr. Apiiga, who is also the Upper East Animal Husbandry Officer advised livestock farmers to secure pregnant sheep and goats with long ropes to allow for a wider range of grazing by animals. He also asked them to deworm their animals at least three times a year to ensure higher productivity.
