Bank of Ghana officials will join hundreds of people this weekend at the Accra Mall for mass registration of shoppers who will be issued with the biometric smart card. Officials of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited say all shops located at the mall will be acquired by banks to enable them to accept the bio-metric smart cards.

The exercise scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday, will enable as many people as possible to get the card and to transact business with it.

The smart card and the e-zwich platform is a major project of the Bank of Ghana after the re-denomination exercise, intended to discourage people from carrying huge sums of money and to drift the economy towards a cashless one.The e-zwich was introduced in April with a few banks on pilot basis and was gradually extended to cover the other banks.

This weekend's exercise will be the first in a series that will also be held in other parts of Accra , and other regional capitals, as well as major towns. All participating banks will be present at the weekend event to register members of the public who show up at the Accra mall.
