Ghana to obtain cer'tion timber

The Forestry Commission has called for collaboration among stakeholders to improve the forestry certification process to ensure sustainable forest management.The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Professor Ashie Kotey said this in Accra at a forum on management planning.  He noted that despite the efforts of government and civil society in promoting certification, Ghana is yet to obtain certification timber on the world market.  

He identified management planning and inadequate capacity of personnel as major challenge to the industry.Professor Ashie Kortey suggested the creation of a link between forest certification and the production of legal timber to help the industry meet the demand of certified timber on the global market.
