Eastern Region's senior citizens day celebration
The Eastern Regional Minister, Kwadwo Affram Asiedu says the educational system adopted by the country since independence has made it possible for her to produce a core of intelligent and enterprising citizens who have supported the public and private sectors of the economy. The Minister said this at a reception held in Koforidua in honour of the senior citizens in the country as part of the 48th Republic day celebrations. Mr. Affram Asiedu said by virtue of their sterling performance, some of them have left footprints which need to be emulated by the youth.

A former Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Nyamaa Boadi advised the youth to humble themselves wherever they find themselves. He praised the Regional Minister for this humility dedication and devotion to the region and the country as a whole.  He asked the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region to emulate the Minister and work diligently.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Akosua Takyiwa Adu said the government is committed towards ensuring that the youth acquire the needed skill training to enable them to contribute effectively towards the development of the country.  It is for this reason that it has taken Technical and Vocational education seriously.

She debunked the notion that such institutions are meant for dull students and advised parents not to force their wards into careers they cannot cope with. Awards and certificates were given to the Senior Citizens who during their working time occupied very prominent positions such as Directors, Chief Executives, Politicians, Security Personnel, Teachers and many more.
