The Convention People’s Party CPP, has commended Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, for complying with the constitutional requirement to create equal opportunities for political parties to reach out to Ghanaians with their campaign messages towards the December general elections. It however expresses concern about lack of adequate facilities to enable GBC branches in the regions to provide fair coverage for all and cited for instance, Kumasi, the second largest city operating with only two television cameras.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the CPP, S. K. Danso said this at a political party’s forum in Kumasi organized by the GBC, to see how they could collaborate to ensure fair and equal coverage for political parties. He described as woefully inadequate, the two cameras available for GBC to cover various activities including political campaigns.
Mr. Danso noted that the high cost of the cameras should not be an excuse saying government should go all out to ensure that, the Kumasi office is provided with enough facilities to continue with its good work. He was also not happy that most often, the news bulletins experience intermittent breaks and wanted to know the causes.
According to Mr. Danso, most Ghanaians irrespective of the availability of radio and television stations still depend on GBC for credible, fair, balanced and mature reports.
