The Proprietor of St. Leo’s International School, Rev. Dr. Joseph Yaw Adaikotey, has advised students not to see sports as meant for the less academic inclined. He said sports help the youth to be occupied in order to avoid the temptation of indulging in social vices such as drug abuse and prostitution. Rev. Dr. Joseph Yaw Adaikotey was speaking at the first Sports Festival for some selected private basic schools in Awutu/Senya District at Kasoa in the Central Region.
It was organised by St. Leo’s International School and sponsored by Ashfoam. The festival brought together six schools who competed in ten disciplines namely sack race, thread and niddle, lime and spoon and 100 metres race. Rev. Dr. Adaikotey advised teachers to sustain physical education to mould the character of children.
He charged students to develop interest in sports and games so as to encourage others to follow their footsteps. The head of Marketing of Ashfoam, Mrs. Jane Sabah Kpeli, said there is the need for people to do regular exercise to keep the body in good shape. Pastor Gabriel Teye Adunarh, who chaired the function implored Ghanaians to take proper care of their health to make them useful to their communities and the country.
He advised parents to provide their children with right environment to help them study hard. In the Senior Primary division, Good Shepherd International School at Odupong Offakor Bohye Asaseso took the first position, following y Prince Pedro Preparatory School also at Odupong Ofaakor, St. Leo’s International School was first in the Lower Primary competition.
The Head Pastor of Elohim Kingdom, Prophetess Osei and Pastor William Baako presented prizes and certificates to the participating schools.
