Counselling seminar held for girls held in Kumasi
A National Counselling Seminar to empower female students in the Senior High Schools to develop their potential to the fullest has taken place at the Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School in Kumasi. It was organized by the Northern Sector branch of the Forum of Heads of Girls' Senior High Schools. The participants came from Girls’ Senior High Schools in Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

According to the President of the Northern Sector Forum of the Association, Johanna Johnson, the forum was born out of a workshop organized in July by the Administrator of the GETFUND in Accra and attended by top women leaders in Ghana, especially Her Ladyship, Mrs. Justice Theodora Wood, to serve as role model.

The impressive attendance and the speeches at the workshop motivated the Heads to constitute themselves into an association to help sensitize females under their care to develop their potential to the fullest.

The Chief Executive Officer of Self Search, a reputable guidance and Counselling Office in Accra, Mrs. Joyce Sika asked the students to look within themselves and never allow their being considered a weaker sex to influence them.  She observed that women are unique in many respects and should therefore take advantage of their strong sides to overcome their weaknesses.

Mrs. Sika Twum compared women to attributes of water, fire and earth which could be destructive yet indispensable.  The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Joseph Onyina, said the rationale behind the Association’s formation was very excellent and requested that such programmes be extended to mixed schools to enable them to also equally benefit.
