The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is spearheading a national effort to put in place a charter that will spell out policies to deal with the numerous problems confronting the country's small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
Speaking at the third in a series of lectures organized to commemorate the association’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Accra last week, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), noted that there is the need for policy makers in the country to realize the key role SMEs played in the development of every economy.
Prof Ernest Aryeetey explained that there is the need to put together a set of common principles relating to various ways in which the operations of SMEs could be improved.
The director, who is also a lead consultant to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), outlined a number of grey areas in the operations of SMEs that need urgent attention for which reason the putting together of a charter as a policy guideline, is critical
