Headmaster advocates inclusion of students in governing body
The Headmaster of Akwamuman Senior High School, Felix Essah-Hienno has suggested the inclusion of students of second cycle schools on schools boards of governors as ex-officio members. He said if students representation is felt at the highest decision making body of second-cycle schools, it will help curb indiscipline as students will see themselves as part of the school governance structure.

Mr. Essah-Hienno made the call during the 39th anniversary and speech and prize giving day of the school at Akosombo in the Eastern Region. He said a forum has been instituted to afford, students the opportunity to criticize all aspects of school life on termly basis. This serves as a feedback to the school’s administrators in helping to deal with shortcomings. The headmaster appealed to the Ghana Education Service to pay the school’s outstanding electricity bills without delay for it to enjoy uninterrupted power supply. He also appealed to government to give to the school its fair share of the national cake.

The Managing Director of the New Times Corporation and an old boy of the school Kofi Asuman advised the students to distance themselves from indiscipline and activities that are not supported or admired by society. He said their time in school is for their grooming for the future. Therefore any uncalculated step will jeopardize their future.

He urged them to utilize the opportunity given them assiduously. Members of staff who have served relentlessly and students who excelled academically were honoured. The occasion was also used to launch the 40th anniversary of the school.
