The Central Regional Chapter of the Association of National Health Insurance Accountants has boycotted an aptitude test set for them by the National Health Insurance Secretariat scheduled for Tuesday. This is because the members believe the test is a ploy to dismiss some of them.
The Chairman of the association, Gilbert Afful said the National Secretariat of the Scheme has no power to conduct any examination. The Association says it believes the examination would led to some of its members being dismissed because they were not employed by the Secretariat but by their respective Board of Directors.
Mr. Afful said the National Association of the National Health Insurance Accountants met in Kumasi in May and issued a petition to the Secretariat to suspend the examination but their plea fell on deaf ears. They have therefore boycotted the exams on the orders of their National Association.
Mr. Afful said the National Secretariat of the Insurance Scheme has not developed any operational manual for them and so does not understand what the whole aptitude test is about. He rather called for training programmes for them to upgrade their skills.
Speaking by phone to radio Ghana, the Director of Public Affairs of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Alhaji Ibrahim Wiredu said the aptitude test is meant to access the training needs of the Accountants so that training programmes can be tailored according to their needs. He categorically denied that the test is to dismiss some of the Accountants as alleged by their leadership.
