The Minister of Communication, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey-Ntim, has announced cabinet’s decision, that Ghana should have nuclear energy Power Plant by 2018.  The Plant will produce 400 mega watts of electricity to production from hydro and thermal sources.  The Regional Training Course for Trainers is in the use of ICT materials in Nuclear Analytical Techniques.

Dr. Aggrey-Ntim noted that the energy crisis, faced in the recent past, has called for the search for an alternative source of Power Production.  He said fear, which is the result of ignorance, is the main reason for the delay in implementing nuclear power plant on the continent.  Dr. Aggrey-Ntim, urged participants to engage in discussions’ as to how to manage and provide security for the new plant that would come to Africa.  The Acting Director General of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Professor Geoffrey Emi-Reynolds said the conventional form of education or training through fellowships or group training has suffered a lot of drawbacks, such as cost effectiveness and language barriers.

He therefore commended the IAEA, for the crucial role it is playing in promoting nuclear science and technology in Ghana and Africa.  About 15 Africa countries are participating in the course.
