Student leaders asked to serve instead of being lords
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor David Millar, has urged students not to see their elevation to leadership positions as a way for self-enrichment. Professor Millar made the call at an orientation and handing-over ceremony of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the UDS in Tamale.  He said students must always remember that they have been elevated to leadership positions to serve those who "pushed" them there, but not to see it as an “opportunity to become lords over them”.  He said they should make themselves accessible to the people and always be ready to listen to their grievances and help them.

He observed that some people in their quest to seek leadership roles always make themselves available for the position, but the story is different after they "get to the top".  The Pro Vice-Chancellor urged the student leaders to be innovative and to always use the appropriate channels to forward their  grievances.

The outgoing SRC President Abubakar Mashud urged students to keep away from politicians, who would want to use them for their selfish gains, adding that, sincerity and integrity should be their watchwords.
