The construction of a two point seven kilometer Oforikrom-Asokwa road project in the Ashanti Region has begun. The project which is in phases, is estimated at US$30m and would be completed in two years. Speaking to Radio Ghana in Kumasi, the Metropolitan Roads Engineer, James Amo-Gotfried said the project involves the construction of an interchange at the Timber Gardens intersection and a bridge on the Susan River, in addition to a dual carriageway from the Ahmadiyya Mosque at Asafo to the erstwhile Kumasi Brewery Company at Ahinsan.

He said the next phase of the project will entail street lighting and landscaping on the new roads. The project which is being undertaken by a Korean construction company, will affect the MTTU offices at the Asokwa Police Station, which is to be relocated to another site. Mr. Amo-Gotfried gave an assurance that possible avenues are being explored to ensure that the traffic situation on the Asafo-Atonsu road does not worsen during the construction period. Meanwhile work on the Sofoline interchange project in Kumasi is in progress.
