Fishermen urged to use dialogue to resolve problems
Fishermen urged to use dialogue to resolve problems

Fishermen in the country have been called upon to use dialogue in addressing problems that affect their occupation instead of planned demonstration. Chief fishermen and representatives of Local Premix Committees in the Central Region adopted the decision at a meeting convened by the Regional Co-ordinating council in Cape Coast.

The Special Assistant to the Regional Minister, Ken Nunoo, pleaded with the fishermen not to misinterpret the delay by the Minister of Fisheries, Glady’s Asmah to get rid of Chinese pair trawlers which are allegedly hampering their work.

He said it is due to the bureaucratic nature of the system of governance and not an indication that she is insensitive to their plight. The Regional Chairman of the fishermen, Nana Kobina Akyer, pleaded with the authorities to address issues that affect the fishing industry to prevent it from collapsing.
