African Media Aid(AFRIMA), a local NGO aimed at helping to create a vibrant media to ensure sustainable development has expressed concern about the violence at Bawku and Anloga. Speaking to the GBC in an interview in Sunyani, the Chief Executive Officer of the Organisation, Raphael Godlove Ahenu called on the security agencies and the government to take stringent measures to bring the situation under control in order to ensure peace in the area.
He said continuous violence in the two areas will stall development, saying the two areas are already relatively underserved and deprived. Mr. Ahenu pointed out that if nothing was done to find an everlasting solution to the problem now the consequence could be more disastrous in the near future.
He asked political leaders not to play politics with the conflicts at Bawku and Anloga but come together to map out strategies to end the conflicts. The CEO called for the prosecution of those who were arrested in connection with the riot.
Their prosecution, according to AFRIMA will serve as deterrent to
others. Mr. Ahenu also called on the Ministry of the Interior to review the curfew in the Bawku Municipality to pave way for commercial activities in the area.
He appealed to the people in the area to bury their differences to ensure peace in order to accelerate development in the area. Mr. Ahenu also called on NGO ‘s Civil Society and peace building organisations to intervene, saying Ghana needs peace for development.
