MMDAs cautioned over delays in disbursement of disabled fund

The Krontrihene of Sunyani Traditional Area, Oboaman Bofotia Boamposem, has cautioned Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) over delays in disbursement of the share of the District Assembly Common Fund, allocated to persons with disabilities. 

He said everyone is susceptible to disability hence, the need to facilitate speedy disbursement of the fund. 

He said disability is not inability and posterity will not spare managers of the fund if they fail to do due diligence towards the prompt release of the fund. 

The Krontrihene of Sunyani, Oboaman Bofotia Boamposem was speaking at the launch of a project aimed at facilitating fair disbursement of the three percent District Assembly Common Fund allocated to persons with disabilities in Sunyani. 

The event was organised by the Ghana Society for the Physically Challenged, and dubbed, "corruption free administration and allocation of three percent District Assembly Common Fund for persons with disabilities". 

It is a 12-month project being funded by STAR-Ghana and implemented by MIHOSO International Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation. 

Project Officer of MIHOSO International Foundation, Pontius Ninwiri, said the project will make significant impact, if members of the Ghana Society for the Physically Challenged hold the MMDAs accountable. 

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, in a message said government is aware of the challenges of people living with disabilities and is working hard to ensure that their plight is alleviated to make life comfortable for them.
