Irrigation mechanism to boost all year farming inaugurated in Accra

An innovative irrigation mechanism to boost all year round agriculture has been inaugurated in Accra. 

The product known as ‘Drip Irrigation’ uses tubes and releases the exact quantity of water plants need. 

A Minister of State In-Charge of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Gyiele Nurah, said the drip system will address concerns of farmers to irrigate their plants all year round. 

He said the drip system will enhance government's ''One Village One Dam'' program by serving as a connecting mechanism for the transportation of water from dams to farms. 

The Managing Director of Interplast, Hayssan Fakhry said the drip pipes are to boost government's planting for Food and Jobs Programme.  

He said with the product, large tracts of arable land can be put to good use. 

Minister of Business Development, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, announced that government will soon provide funding for 1,200 entrepreneurs and 56% of the beneficiaries from the agricultural sector.
