Government will investigate the Ghana Bauxite Company - John Peter Amewu


Minister of Lands and Natural Resources John Peter Amewu says government will investigate the failure of the Ghana Bauxite Company to pay a penalty of 90 million dollars for axle overload and tax invasion by the company. 

He said government will also get tough with multinational companies which try to evade taxes and declare loses to government. 

Speaking at Awaso in the Western Region Mr Amewu said government will not hesitate to revoke the license of any company that flout Ghana’s mining laws. Felix Cofie reports. 

Mr Amewu who was unhappy with the company for flouting the country's mining laws gave the management two weeks to address all the lapses in the company's books. 

He said the Chinese managers sell bauxite to their mother company in China at a price lower than what prevails on the international market. 

This, he said contributes to the losses. Mr Amewu said Ghana has been shortchanged for a long time adding that government would advise itself after studying the company's 2017 financial statement.  

However, the General Manager of Ghana Bauxite Company J.F Fang denied the company has failed to pay the penalty for axle overloading.
