KMA to complete the New Tafo market with funding from the private sector


The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is sourcing funding from the private sector to complete the New Tafo market. 

The Metropolitan Chief Executive Osei Assibey- Antwi said this was being done through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, as well as the Ministry of Finance. 

The facility, which started more than ten years ago, has been left uncompleted due to lack of funds.  

Mr Assibey-Antwi, who was speaking during an assembly meeting in Kumasi, said with the creation of five new Municipal Assemblies out of the KMA, the assembly was left with fewer satellite markets to generate revenue. 

The New Tafo market, he noted has more than One Thousand stores and stalls and is being given the needed attention to ensure early completion.  

On the Kejetia/Central Market Re-development Project, the MCE hinted that provision had been made for the commencement of the second phase.  

Mr. Assibey-Antwi indicated that the Assembly is helping the contractor to beat the deadline for accessing funds for the project.
