Asawase killings: Muntaka calls for speedy probe

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase and Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak says he is not happy with government's delay in probing the recent killing of some alleged robbers in his constituency. 

He also raised concerns over allegations of Police brutality towards the Zongo community in Kumasi after the killings. 

In a Facebook post, the Asawase MP was also unhappy that ten days after the death of the young men, they are yet to be buried.

Government had indicated that it was going to commission a probe into the incident.  The independent probe is intended to bring some clarity to the matter, but Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak said he is “deeply worried” about the delays. 

He said he has a big responsibility to represent every member of his constituencyregardless of his or her background.  

He said he has been making frantic calls to the presidency to expedite action on the probe but to no avail. 

He wants a quick composition of the committee that will probe the incident so that justice can be served for the young men to be buried with dignity.  

Minister for Zongo and Inner City Development, Boniface Abubakar Siddique has earlier in the week indicated that an independent committee will surely be announced in due course.
