We won’t back down on strike -  UTAG

The University Teachers Association of Ghana UTAG, says it will not back down on its plan to go on strike by July 31, should the government fail to immediately pay  their 2017/2018 book and research allowance.  

UTAG however says it will not heed to government’s unofficial calls for them to rescind the decision.  

President of the Association, Eric Opoku in an inetrview with an Accra based private Radio Station, said they have written to the Ministry of Finance over the allowance, and indicated a deadline for payments to be made, else they will lay down their tools.  

Mr. Opoku said the leadership of UTAG, have had a formal communication with government but yet to get a response. 

Meanwhile, Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, has urged UTAG members through a media interaction to rescind their decision to embark on the strike. 

He promised the allowances will be sorted out in coming weeks because the Controller and Accountant General’s Department has processed materials from the Ministry of Finance.
