Ashaiman Municipal Assembly begins decongestion to clear streets of hawkers The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly has embarked on "Operation Clear the Street of Hawkers" to make way for motorists. The operation comes on the heels of Thursday’s (July 26) accident where a truck load of building blocks ploughed into hawkers killing one person and injuring six others. A visit to the market by GBC’s Correspondent, Sheriff Iddrisu, shows that most of the hawkers were absent with pathways cleared for easy vehicular and pedestrian movement. Some of the wares of the hawkers were seized by the city guards to ensure orderliness. The Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Albert Okyere, said the Assembly has tried several times to stop the hawking on the main roads, but all efforts have yielded little results. He described the incident as unfortunate and called on the traders to be compliant with the rules to ensure their safety. He said the Assembly has completed the construction of 500 sheds at Adjei Kojo in Ashaiman and entreated the traders to purchase them and re-locate from the streets. gbcghanaonline ---DECRYPTED---
