Nomination of Electoral Commission Bosses must be sacrosanct – STRANEK Advises government Strategic Thinkers Network – Africa (STRANEK) has expressed surprise at the action of the President by appointing a new Electoral Chairperson Jean Measa and her deputies despite the case of the former EC boss Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two deputies in court. In a Press Release on Wednesday [July 25], STRANEK said “the action of the president should not be a means to corner the Council of State to accept the nomination hook, line and sinker. This is because the Council of State has not given its advice” it explained. Strategic Thinkers Network – Africa (STRANEK) however, proposed the involvement of all political parties in the selection of the Electoral Commission bosses to prove the neutrality and fairness since the Election Commission is for all not for a political party. In addition, the association added that, “although the fairness and unbiased “modus operandi” of the nominees may be questionable, the union agreed that the nominees should fill the vacancies at the Electoral Commission with competency and be fit for the job”. They also called on government to be sacrosanct since the EC is in charge of inter alia, all public elections and referenda. Story by: Gifty Tracy Aminu gbcghanaonline.com ---DECRYPTED---
