More calls for establishment of an Independent Police Commission to create confidence in the citizenry Human Rights and Security Activists are calling for an independent body outside the Police Service to deal with infractions involving police officers and the civilian population. They contend this move will stop some of the cover ups by the police in such situations. Security Analyst Emmanuel Kotin believes that intelligence failure is a contributing factor to the recent mis-hap in the service. He said for the police to perform well, resources and training are vital. Head of Africa Office for the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Mina Mensah, said an independent body will engender greater public confidence. She said the PIPS is an Internal Mechanism to check only police officers who go wayward. Governance Expert, Prof. Emmanuel Asiamah says more needs to be done in the training of police personnel.
