Jean Mensa: Choice of EC Chair surprising - Political Scientist A Senior Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Alidu Seidu says the choice of Jean Mensa, as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission is surprising. However, he said her competence is not in doubt. He said the EC as an institution needs people with diverse background, and the choices made by the President are very apt. Speaking to GBC’s Felix Cofie, Dr. Seidu said despite claims from the opposition parties of the Chairperson having a soft spot for the ruling government, the most important thing is how well she is able to discharge her responsibilities. On allegations of politicising the EC, Dr. Alidu Seidu said the problem has to do with the processes that led to the removal of the former EC Chairperson. He said, he would have wished the President had waited for the determination of the law suits at the Supreme Court challenging the removal of the former Chairperson of the EC. Head of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Jean Mensa's nomination as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission follows the removal of Mrs Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, for stated misbehavior. A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare named Mr Samuel Tettey and Dr Eric Asare Bossman as Deputy Chairpersons. Ms Adwoa Asuama has also been named as a member of the Commission. She replaces Mrs Pauline Dadzawa who has proceeded on retirement. gbcghanaonline.com ---DECRYPTED---
