President Akufo-Addo condemns police assault of nursing mother

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned a brutal assault of a nursing mother by a police man at the Midland Savings and loans.

In a tweet Saturday, the President said: “Policemen are meant to protect citizens, and not to assault citizens.”

Lauding the Ghana Police Service he said, “The measures that the IGP has taken to sanction the erring policeman, and to make sure these things don’t happen again, have my complete support.”

“I support 100% the measures he has taken, so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating,” he added.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the policeman identified as Lance Corporal Godzi Frederick Amanor, (popularly known as Skalla), was seen virtually punching and slapping a nursing mother in a banking hall. 

He was asked by officials of Midland Savings and Loan to show the nursing mother with her baby to the door for demanding her money but the policeman decided to do in a ‘brutish’ way.

Meanwhile, Lance Corporal Godzi Frederick Amanor is in police custody and being processed for Court on all applicable criminal charges, a police tweet on Saturday has said. 

“He has also been interdicted and his uniform and all other police accoutrements taken from him, pending internal disciplinary proceedings.”

“Investigation has also commenced into the conduct of officials of the Midland Savings and Loans Limited, where the incident happened and all persons who are implicated would face the full rigours of the law,” it added.
