WACCBIP needs more research funds to enhance operations The Director of West Africa Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), Professor Gordon Awandare has called on government to establish more research funds for the organisation aside from the World Bank Fund. This, he said, will enable students of WACCBIP get access to the tools they need for conducting research. Speaking at the WACCBIP Research Conference at the University of Ghana, Professor Awandare said WACCBIP seeks to create opportunities for scientists who are trained here in Ghana to stay and help the centre come out with more research findings. The West African Centre for Cell Biology Infectious Pathogens (WACCIBIP), established in 2014 has grown to become a leading biomedical research and training centres in the West African sub-region. The centre funded by the World Bank was to improve diagnosis, prevention and control of infectious diseases in the region by providing advanced level training and research excellence on the cell and molecular biology of infectious pathogens. The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development, Professor Francis Dodoo, said WACCIBIP is demonstrating the exact impact centres can have by way of their contribution towards the transformation of the University of Ghana into research intensive globally competitive University. The Director of WACCIBIP, Professor Gordon Awandare hopes the research results that are released during their conferences are used to affect policies that the public will generate interest in what the Centre does. Other partner institutions in attendance were the University of Ibadan from Nigeria, Kembiri from Kenya, UCT from South Africa, Lekma Teaching Hospital, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Health and Allied Science, Lekma Nursing Training College and University of Cape Coast among others. gbcghanaonline.com ---DECRYPTED---
