Tax evaders, corrupt tax officials to be prosecuted

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, has said “tax evaders and corrupt tax officials will be prosecuted.” 

“Prosecutions of tax evaders and corrupt tax officials will be implemented,” the minister said during the presentation of the mid-year budget review in Parliament on Thursday.

He said a special VAT Attack force will ensure enforcement and deepen VAT penetration from the current low levels of 11 percent, and institutional reforms at GRA. 

He disclosed that electronic applications are being developed to enable taxpayers to conduct business with the GRA online. 

"The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced the use of big data analytics to identify and register additional taxpayers and through that improve filing rates and revenue receipts," he added.
