Mid-Year Budget Is Govt's Desperation To Increase Levies Through Indirect Taxes - Financial Expert  

The mid-year budget review presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister has not escaped the lenses of Economists and Financial Analysts. 

To some, the government took the best decision by not increasing taxes, while others think the government is spending more than it is making through revenues, hence the inherent problems of government's drive to stabilize the economy. 

Head of Finance at the University of Cape Coast Business School, Professor John Gati, however thinks the taxes that were maintained may come back in other forms to bite Ghanaians, particular the GETFUND and the VAT, which are direct levies. 

On the issue of government's introduction of taxes on luxury cars and personal incomes beyond GHC10,000, Professor Gati said it was expected because it targets the well to do and spares the poor.
