Black sticks coach expresses confidence in team as Ghana gets set to take on Zimbabwe in Africa youth games.


Head coach of the Ghana Hockey youth team Black sticks Hajia Ramatu Abass has indicated her team's readiness against Zimbabwe in the youth Africa games qualifiers set to begin today in Algeria.

The Black sticks are set to make a huge step as they begin their campaign against their Zimbabwean opponents this morning at 10 am local time to vie for one of the two slots that will represent Africa in Argentina.

The Black sticks play three other African countries in an all play all games before the first and second ultimately make the cut to the world youth championship games which will be staged from 2nd to 4th November this year.

Hajia Ramatu Abass is very optimistic about the team's chances to fetch their first win against Zimbabwe to bolster their chances of qualifying.

''we have prepared very well for this match, the team is in shape and we are very confident we beat our opponent.

we have done some monitoring on our opponent via YouTube which has afforded us a fair assessment their team so we can win here despite the current rules and time alterations made to the game. The Africa youth games involves all 52 African countries in various disciplines which will avail them the opportunity to represent Africa in their respective disciplines.

Meanwhile information from Algeria depicts that Ghana's ambassador to Algeria is yet to personally meet with the team since the team's arrival in Algeria. He has however sent some officials to the team's camp to welcome them on his behalf.
