Upper East MDAs get new pick-ups to boost Planting for Food & Jobs programme 

Directors of Agriculture in all the 13 Municipal and District Assemblies of the Upper East Region have taken delivery of new pick-ups to support the government’s ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ programme which was launched a year ago. 

The vehicles are to help address the transport needs of the implementers of the programme, because of the difficulty in visiting hard-to-reach areas for field work and other monitoring activities. 

At an official handing over ceremony in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari noted that the provision of the vehicles, with assistance from the Canadian government, was to give the policy and the agriculture sector a major boost, whilst making it much attractive through the needed logistics and support.

The provision of the vehicles is to support the work of the Directors of Food and Agriculture at the District and Municipal level. 

Mr. Rockson Bukari assured beneficiary districts and municipalities of additional support from government. He cautioned them against misuse of the vehicles.

The vehicles were received by the Regional Director of Agriculture, Francis Ennor for onward distribution to all the districts and municipalities.

Mr. Ennor was grateful to government for heeding to their plea and pledged, on behalf of the directors, to put the vehicles to good use in order to enhance food security. 

The President of the Conference of District Directors of Agric, CODDA, Saibu Mahama, took the opportunity to again appeal to government to fast tract the distribution of motorbikes for field staff.

The Navrongo Municipal Chief Executive, William Aduum said the timing of the gesture was appropriate because of the importance of the planting for food and jobs programme.

Meanwhile, a monitoring team is set to be in place to oversee to the proper maintenance and use of the vehicles.
