Speaker not seeking to sell Parliament land - His Office says

The office of the Speaker of Parliament has described as baseless and erroneous reports in the Herald newspaper which alleges that he is seeking to sell Parliament land to be used as a hotel. 

A statement from the Public Affairs Department said the Speaker alone cannot take any decision regarding Parliament's property without the Parliament Service Board. 

The statement says the Speaker has insisted from the beginning of his tenure the need to secure and protect all property belonging to Parliament. Therefore, it will be erroneous for anyone to put out such a story without any facts. 

The statement further urges anyone who has doubts to check from Parliament before giving such false reports.
