UG Medical Center to be opened July 18 The Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu has announced that the University of Ghana Medical Center will be opened on Wednesday July 18 to the public. Mr. Manu made this announcement when the Health and information Ministries together with the Interim Management of the University Medical Center Committee briefed the Media. According to the Minister, on Wednesday July 18 the out-Patient Department (OPD), Laundry, Pharmacy and the House cleaning departments are the only departments that will be opened to the public in the meantime. He admitted that specialists will be poached from other medical facilities like the Ridge, 37 and Korle-Bu Teaching hospitals to operate at the new Facility. The Minister again admitted that this is likely to affect the afore mentioned hospitals hence the need to train more specialist doctors to serve in all the facilities. The Minster explained that, government has made plans for free medical specialist training to attract more doctors to the facility when opened on Wednesday. The facility which is designed to employ 800 staffs will start with an initial 13medical staffs. When opened on Wednesday the facility will only be a referral OPD whiles charges will be the same as any public health facility until when it becomes fully operational.
