Broader consultation needed in appointment of  new EC

Governance expert and a Director at Center for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana, Dr Kojo Asante, is calling for broader consultation, devoid of partisanship in the appointment of a new Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson and Commissioners. 

Dr Asante believes the President should go beyond the minimum requirement of consultations with the Council of State to get a suitable candidate to oversee the Country's electoral body. 

He spoke to host Ibrahim Kwarteng on our news and current affairs programme 'Behind the News.'

Meanwhile, a member of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Albert Kofi Arhin, expects the President to appoint people who will be accepted by citizens after broad-based consultations with political parties and civil society organisations.

Still on the EC, a private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu called for an institutional audit at the Commission.
