President Akufo-Addo appoints four Supreme Court Justices

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has nominated four Justices to the Supreme Court subject to parliamentary approval.

The four are: Justice Samuel K. Malful-Sau, Justice of Appeal, Justice Agnes M. A. Dordzie, Justice of Appeal, Professor Nii Ashie Kotey, former Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Ghana, Legon and Nene A. O. Amegatcher, private legal practitioner and former President of the Ghana Bar Association.

Their nominations are in pursuant to Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution in consultation with the Judicial Council.

The communiqué signed by the President and read by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, said “Upon receipt of the Judicial Council’s advice, and in accordance with my duty under Article 144(2), I consulted with the Council of State by submitting the names and curriculum vitae of the nominees for appointment to the Supreme Court. 

The Council of State has notified my office that the consultation process for the appointment of the nominees as Justices of the Supreme Court is now complete".

Mr. Speaker, it is my respectful hope and expectation that the approval of the nominees will proceed expeditiously, to enable them assume office as soon as practicable, the statement added.
