Removal of EC Chairperson harsh decision – Caesar Kale

A former Presidential Staffer, Caesar kale, has expressed displeasure about the removal of the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei and her two deputies.

According to him, the move by the government is harsh and can jeopardize the country’s democracy.  

He posited that, the removal of Mrs Osei was a deliberate move by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since they never supported her appointment.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Uniiq FM Breakfast Drive’, Mr. Kale alleged that, “Due to the inability of the current administration to fulfill their campaign promises, the party has made a “plan B” to secure votes coming elections as electorates will be voting them out.” 

According to him, her dismissal which was based on the grounds of procurement is not fertile. This is because procurement is not a core mandate of the Electoral Commission therefore if a procurement law has been breached, there are laws for rectification to restore normalcy, he added.

A letter dated 28th June, 2018 from the office of president, directed the removal of the Electoral Commission’s Chairperson Mrs Charlotte Osei and her two deputies.

This directive follows the recommendation made by a five-member committee set up by the Chief Justice Sophia Akufo to investigate the six-page petition sent to the presidency on the 13 July, 2017.
