"President only came to praise his ministers" - John Jinapor


A former Deputy Minister for Energy John Jinapor says there is nothing new in President Akufo Addo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA). He said the President only came to praise his ministers and had very little to say about infrastructure and what the government is doing.

The NDC Member of Parliament for Yapei/Kusawgu was speaking in an interview on GTV after the delivery of the SONA and emphatically stated that this is not the true state of the nation. Mr. Jinapor added that it is ridiculous to give fertilizer to farmers who are already engaged in that activity and say you have created jobs and described the recent figures given by the Minister of Agriculture as a “phantom figure”. He demanded to know the specifics, saying “give us the figures, give us the indices”.

In a rebuttal, a Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Abu Jinapor, incidentally a brother of John, stated that we should be proud of the president’s delivery. He said they inherited an economy in crisis but presently, the health of the economy is “pointing in the right direction and on the right track”.

Mr. Abu Jinapor was of the opinion that the government has “implemented some of the most profound interventions in our history”.

On employment, Mr. Abu Jinapor said “you cannot create jobs when your economy is stagnating”. He however stated that some people have been employed pointing to the security agencies where” there has been recruitment in every sector”.
