End FGM and harmful traditional practices against women - IAC 

The Inter-African Committee on Harmful Traditional Practices against Women and Children (IAC) has called for an immediate end to Female Genital Mutilation and other negative practices against women.

In a statement to mark this year's International Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation Day, the First Lady of Burkina Faso, Mrs. Sika Kabore who is IAC Goodwill Ambassador, reminded stakeholders to reinforce the  commitments made at the UN General Assembly in December 2012, to eliminate all forms of harmful practices such as FGM and child marriage. 

The statement called on governments and civil society organisations to formulate concrete policies aimed at ending FGM. 

It notes that although appreciable progress has been made in the fight against FGM, over two million women are still at risk of going through the practice each year. 

In view of this, the Inter African Committee and its partners appealed to political leaders and other stakeholders to fully commit to the campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation.
